With this release I am hoping to raise funds for the purchase of a new bike. All proceeds are gratefully received and will go towards this.
I had my bike stolen last Thursday 6th June, while I was attempting to record some singing in a reverberant tunnel in Warriston Cemetery beneath the cycle paths. The recording session was disrupted by the barking of a dog named Coco who seemed a bit freaked out by my singing. You can hear her on 'Canis Interruptus'.
The other recordings were made in the Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh in late 2012. 'Rigs O Rye' is a traditional song that I first encountered during a residency at the School Of Scottish Studies sound archive in 2011. Despite the elegiac, pibroch inspired sound it is actually quite cheerful for a Scottish ballad; rather than one murdering the other, the protagonists end up happily married with kids. 'Cosmic Rig' is an extended improvisation around the same drone from my shruti box.
